TIES Canada is a registered Canadian charity dedicated to advancing education in developing countries. TIES Kenya is the subsidiary organization, implementing the sponsorship program on behalf of TIES Canada in Kenya. What began as a pilot project has continued for 5 years now! What a blessing! The funding has directly educated 12 young women in Kenya in universities across the country, so far. TIES Canada also funded and enabled us to pilot our Digital Skills Project (DSP). Most significantly is that funds from the DSP project facilitated us to have our website, paying for the website domain and hosting charges. The initial website was designed and developed by one of the girls- our very own Anifa, a Computer Science student in Meru University of Science and Technology. She utilized her skills and earned some income from that. That is the spirit and vision the DSP program! We are incredibly grateful for this relationship; for what we have achieved together, committed to what we are currently doing and excited and hopeful for what lies ahead.
Our linkage and partnership with AVSI Kenya is so organic and natural. Most of the TIES Kenya university program beneficiaries are AVSI alumni under their Distance Support Program (DSP). We (including the TIES Kenya Program Manager, Sarah) were sponsored and supported by AVSI through the DSP for our high school education.So it only made sense that when TIES Canada launched the university sponsorship program in 2021, that we reached out to AVSI. So TIES Canada simply continued and extended that to universities. Our relationship has been fruitful so far, with 9 out of our 13 beneficiaries being referred from AVSI. We are excited to continue this relationship given our mutual interest in advancing education for girls in Kenya.
